Outside the Bountiful Temple
On January 20th, 2012, Derek drove us up to the Salt Lake City. That evening we had planned to go do sealings at the Salt Lake Temple and then go out to eat at the Cheese Cake Factory, one of my family’s favorite ‘special occasion’ restaurant. The Temple was closed for maintenance so we decided to continue north and go to the one in Bountiful. We love going to the temple and have been to the Provo, Oqruirrh Mountain, Draper, Jordan River and Mount Timpanogos Temples together. Because of their spiritual meanings, they mean a lot to us. The weather was really bad but we hadn’t been for a few weeks and really wanted to go. When we arrived, some of the roads up to the temple had been closed but we had made it safely. We went and stood in proxy for those that have passed on so that their families could be sealed together as a family forever. Afterwards, Derek took me to the Celestial room. We talked about the sealing ordinance and then about it in relation to us. As we talked about it and he asked me how I felt about it in relationship to us he pulled out the ring box from his pocket and asked me to marry him. I don’t remember all of it but that I started to get teary-eyed and it took me a little bit to say ‘yes’ because I was so surprised and happy, I was speech-less. However, something wonderful that Derek said that I remember is that he had been thinking a lot about how to ask me to marry him and the temple seemed to represent us and our relationship best. I completely agree. It’s where we can feel the closest to heaven and heaven is where we want to be together for ever after this life. I love Derek so much and I know he loves me too. He is amazing across so many aspects. I’m thankful beyond measure that he asked me to be his wife.
